1904 Cart Prize: Herbert Walter Wareing - Part Song

This composition, called Phoebe, is a Song for 4 voices (SATB) based on words by Thomas Lodge (1557-1625). Composed by Herbert Walter Wareing, Mus Doc (Cantab), (1857-1918), an organist and composer, it was awarded a £10 Henry Cart Prize in 1904. Wareing was also awarded a further Cart Prize for a separate submission (Click Here).

A handwritten copy of this score is also held by the Company, but it is by a professional copyist (see stamp on the final page) rather than in the Composer's hand. It is possible that this copy was made by the Company (to be held) before the original submission was returned to the composer or sent to the Publisher.
