Latin Serenade For London

Jorge Morel

Jorge Morel (b. 1931) shown left, is a classical guitarist and composer from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He now lives in Florida after living for many years in New York.

He was commissioned in early 2008 by the (then) Junior Warden, Maurice Summerfield, to produce a composition for guitar that was dedicated to the Musicians' Company and would receive its first performance during the Dinner which followed Mr Summerfield's Installation as Master Musician on 11th November 2009 at Drapers' Hall.

The composition was entitled Latin Serenade for London. Shown right, is the Eden Stell Duo (Mark Eden and Christopher Stell) performing the work at the Drapers' Hall Dinner. The Guest Speaker was Mr Graham Wade - shown left in the photo below, alongside the new Master, with Mr John Williams OBE on the right.

Shown below (centre) is a Table Plan from that evening and on the right is an early photo of the composer (Jorge Morel) at work with Mr Summerfield in the 1980s.

The composition was subsequently published by Ashley Mark Publishing Co. under the slightly amended title of Latin Serenade for the City of London. Shown left is the cover of this published score and each page is shown below, click on an image to enlarge.
