    Sims Reeves' Baton

    This Ivory conducting Baton was presented by the renowned singer John Sims Reeves (1810-1900) to conductor Sir Michael Costa (1808-1884) in Remembrance of the Birmingham Festival September 1852, where Costa was the Musical Director. The programme included Messiah and Elijah.

     

    The Baton was subsequently presented back to the Company in January 1937 by A.F.Hill Esq. (Master 1911-12). This was Minuted during a Court Meeting of 12th October that year Click Here to view the relevant Minute Book pages of that meeting.
