Established as the Young Jazz Musician Medal in 1991 by Jeffery B Lockett (Master 1990-1991) and endowed by him and other members of the Company for services to jazz, principally in the UK. In 2022, it was renamed the Tina May Jazz Award in memory of the first winner in 1992. A Bronze medal is awarded to a newcomer, supplemented by a performance fee.
