A biennial competition for young composers aged under 35. Applicants are all UK citizens. Launched in 2012 (following a suggestion by Liveryman Michael Hockney), each year has a different and specific brief for the composition; all of 8 minutes duration, in 2012 it was for strings, in 2013 the composition was for organ, in 2015 for piano trio, and in 2017 for wind quintet.
The premiere of the winning composition is often hosted by the Lord Mayor at Mansion House.
